The Ring Road

One road around the island

Route 4169 circles Koh Samui in one 50 km loop: Nathon, Maenam, Bophut, Big C and the airport turn, the inland side of Chaweng, Lamai, and back to Nathon. Stay on it and you cannot get lost. A family can build a whole day from this one road, and every place below sits on it.

Learn the island in one lap

It is a loop. Miss a turn and you are still on your way. The worst case is a longer drive, never a lost one.
Roughly an hour and a half of driving all the way round without stops, more when it is busy. Clockwise from Nathon pier puts the north coast first; anticlockwise puts Lamai first.
The beach roads at Chaweng, Lamai and Fisherman's Village are side loops off it. Turn in, turn back out, and you are on the ring again.
Big C, Samui Town Center and the fuel stations sit right on it, so the shopping, a bank and a full tank never mean leaving the road.

The stops, in driving order

Clockwise from Nathon pier. The km mark is where you meet each place along the loop. Every one is within 300 m of the road, measured from a checked pin.

    Outdoor 500 m track on the Bophut ring road. Drivers need to be 140 cm; smaller kids ride as passengers in a two-seat kart. EasyKart at Chaweng Lake lets kids from 110 cm drive.

Coffee, both kinds

Some parents want the chain they know, some want the cafe nobody else has found. Both are on this road. Cafe Amazon has at least four branches on it by Rick's count, Starbucks is inside Big C, and the independents join the Parent Section as parents confirm them.

Hotels on it

Many of the big family resorts sit on the ring road or one turn off it at Bophut: ibis Samui Bophut, Bandara Resort and Spa, Anantara Bophut and Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut Beach are all within 200 m of it, and the Four Seasons drive comes off it at the north-west corner. Stay at one of these and the whole day starts and ends on the same road.
